PoE Chassis and Modules - Summary
of Key Product Features
LAN Power Systems Midspan Power over Ethernet Hubs have many
key feature advantages over other PoE products. Below is a
summary of the major feature advantages of the 3 slot PoE
Chassis. Many of these features also apply to the 1 slot Chassis.
Modularity
The 3 slot PoE Chassis is built around the concept of Modularity.
With different module types and combinations available, the
Customer benefits in a variety of ways not available with
other Midspan Hubs, Powered Patch panels, or Powered Switches
that are of fixed Port design. The modular design of the LAN
Power Chassis allows for:
Flexibility
The Chassis can be configured with one, two or three modules
supporting up to 24 Ports as required. The various styles
of modules may be used together in the same chassis when different
powering needs or Port counts are required. Most popular is
the 8 Port module which supports 10Mb, 100Mb, or 1000Mb Data
throughput speeds and up to 18 watts per Port continually.
The 4 Port High Wattage module provides up to 36 watts per
Port continually as required by some End devices. These modules
exceed the performance mandates of the current IEEE PoE Standard.
Scalability
Additional modules may be added to empty chassis slots any
time as required. Modules may be hot-swapped while the chassis
remains powered. Modules with different functionality may
be exchanged in the chassis for modules currently in use.
No need to "waste" the chassis because the needs
of the Network change (more Ports / higher power / faster
speeds) in the future. Customers may purchase exactly what
they need, not be forced to "buy more".
Repairability
If a Port or group of Ports ever fail due to a lightning strike
or power surge on the Network link, the module can be quickly
removed and replaced. With competitive Midspan Hubs, Powered
Patch panels or powered Switches, the entire unit would need
to be removed from the Network and replaced. The modular chassis
saves Customers time and money on any needed repair costs.
Keeping a spare module on hand is like having a spare tire
for your car, it lets you make the repair and keep going quickly.
With competitive PoE products you have to get a complete "new
car" before you can get going again. The modules also
incorporate additional safety features like Voltage Isolation
between modules and High Voltage over protection fuses not
found on other competing PoE products.
Full Power on every Port
This is the second key technology that differentiates LAN
Power from all other competitive Midspan Hubs, Powered Patch
panels and PoE Switches. Other PoE products are limited to
about 200 watts total power available for all of the End devices
attached to the PoE unit. The 3 slot Chassis has been engineered
from the start with 450 watts total power available to the
End devices. For a 24 Port PoE Hub, with all Ports active,
200 watts total means just 8.3 watts available at each Port.
This may work for some applications, but End devices are taking
more and more power with each new feature release. For applications
where End devices require full power, only 13 or 14 of the
competitive unit's 24 Ports could forward power, while the
remaining 10 Ports will be useless. In contrast LAN Power
Hubs are always capable of providing up to 18 watts per Port,
while all Ports are active, on a continual basis, thereby
exceeding the current IEEE802.3af Standard.
No need for "Power Management"
This also means that there is no "Power Management"
software needed to monitor and control how much power is being
utilized by End devices, no need to set thresholds or prioritize
which devices get power and which don't in case the total
power allotment is reached. This is a major savings for the
Customer to not devote man-hours to measuring, monitoring,
making settings or accounting for power usage. Competitors
treat "Power Management" as if it were a feature;
it is really a necessary software tool to make up for a major
deficiency in their product technology. LAN Power products
don't need Power Management because they offer full power,
on all Ports, all the time.
Full 2 year Warranty
The Modular PoE Chassis, like all LAN Power Systems products,
comes with a quality and performance warranty lasting 2 full
years.
Other Manufacturers cannot match the Flexibility,
Simplicity and Value of the PoE Chassis
and Module solution.
