| IP Security
and Access Control Applications
Most Electronic Security and Access Control devices such
as access card or security badge readers have traditionally
powered either on 110v AC or 12v or 5v DC. This is the next
large Market Segment of products which has begun to ready
itself for PoE technology. Manufacturers in this product area
are not overlooking the fact that having their products PoE
ready is a huge feature advantage over other Manufacturers
whose Security products are not. All these Security and Access
Control devices which were once stand-alone are now becoming
part of the Network. And being PoE ready is just the next
evolutionary step in their feature development. The Diagram
below shows the connectivity of the necessary components.
As with IP Security Cameras, IP Security and Access Control
devices with PoE technology features will allow for installation
almost anywhere. No more concerns with AC power outlet availability
either for direct plug in to 110v or for step down adapters
providing 12v or 5v DC. The same LAN Data Cable connection
which allows the Network to monitor each Security transaction
from the unit can now deliver the power needed for each unit
as well. PoE Midspans will capture the majority of this powering
market with their flexible Port counts and ability to adapt
to non-standard voltage requirements. Single Port PoE Injectors
and workgroup sized PoE Hubs will be the most suited for this
emerging application. As with other PoE applications, 100%
uptime can be assured by matching the PoE Hub to a UPS system.
Secure, reliable centralized power for the Access Control
Network will be provided with Midspan PoE Hubs at a fraction
of the cost of competing technologies.
Benefits for Security and Access Control Networks
- Save 50 to 80% over the cost of traditional power outlet
placement or low voltage wiring with PoE Midspans and LAN
Data Cable instead.
- Be able to afford more Access Control devices because
of reduced installation budget
- Additional $$ savings by not replacing Ethernet Switches
or Cable plant
- LAN Power's PoE Midspans provide cost effective power
back-up along with a UPS system
- The PowerUp Midspan may be placed in any convenient location
along the LAN Data link between the Ethernet Switch and
Access Control device needing to be powered
